Eames Plywood Lounge: Impressive In Every Process

It's impressive to me how that Charles and Ray Eames could work out molding processes of plywood so early on. Especially, when we consider the complexity of the designs that they had engineered. Today, those complexities are much more automated than they where back in the beginning, but the making of an Eames Lounge is no less impressive. Precision is of maximum importance. From the cut of the frame to the depth of the buttons on the upholstery, every thing is measure and precise.

So, if you've wondered how these incredible pieces of functional Mid-Century Art are made, here is your opportunity to find out. Here is also your opportunity to see why buying a Herman Miller^ Eames Lounge is a decision well worth pondering. If you are interested in buying a  Herman Miller^ made Eames Lounge, you can be assured the money will be an investment, rather than just an expense on furniture.

^I am not sponsored nor paid for my promotion of Herman Miller products over other manufactures. From seeing the process, and having had Herman Miller products, I believe in their quality.

Feels Like A Sci-Fi Day

Today, I wanted it to be an easy, relaxing day. So I figured that I would talk about something light-hearted. While thinking about what topic to choose, I was working on my new Amidst mod zazzle store*. Then it struck me... "I should search "Retro Sci-fi*". So I did, and I was pretty impressed with what I found.

Now, just so you know, I'm not particularly into kitch. I don't think badly of those who are, but still, kitch just hasn't ever really been my liking. That rule, of course, is broken when it comes to Retro Sci-fi*. I LOVE Retro Sci-fi*. In fact, just about the only thing I read, other than design and furniture*/retro woodworking* books, are Retro Futuristic Sci-fi* novels. Isiac Asimov* is my favorite author. Even his joke books are really good.

Still, what has always attracted me most are graphics, and illustrations.  To that end, I thought I'd share a few cool graphics that you can purchase in different forms on Zazzle.com* that are 100% cool retro futuristic/sci-fi. In fact, you can even find a number of vintage sci-fi movie posters and graphics from novels applied to different products.  So to give you an idea of what's available, here are few of my personal favorites.

Also, don't forget to check out my Amidst Mod Zazzle store as well.

It's Coming Back To Me Now...

I guess as I get older, I just don't remember as much as I used to. Could it be though, I'm just on the internet or "e-net" ,as a friends dad calls it, to much?( Nobody knows way E-net.)

You've probably experienced the same thing. Something catches your eye, and you think, this is cool,I've got to share that. Two seconds later, the same thing happens again, and first thing you found, went out the window. Well...that's what happened to me with this site. I fond it, and then...there it went out the mental window. Thanks to the "e-net" being so small though and everything (insert sarcasm here), I found it once again. In fact, facebook brought it back to me. What was it...? Anticipation building. Ooooh... Click here to keep reading.

Mid-Century Modern Restaurant in Palm Desert

Almost any design that has a single shed roof, post and beam construction, and a rock wall is going to be on my favorites list. Then, if you through in some a cool font and some polished metal finishes, well, let's just say it's a sure deal I'm going to feature it.

Lynive In The Now!

Lynne Naylor, well... In reality that's all I need to say for a lot of people to conjure up all kinds of thoughts. Specifically, good, futuristic and most of all fanciful thoughts. These thoughts in them selves have a way of putting people into a mental state that helps to escape life a bit.

However, until recently I didn't know how much the works of Lynne Naylor had touched me personally. It's quite amazing the catalogue of Cartoons she has created, worked on or directed that inspired me in artistic directions. Lynne's art holds a true simplicity that is founded in the mod theme through and through, while at the same time being readily accepted in a more mainstream market. Lynne's ability to hold true to both forms just helps to show how accomplished she is.

Well! How accomplished is she? Very! Within the TV world Lynne Naylor creates characters that hold to a timeless truth in their existence. This no doubt is due to the timeless Mid-Century influence that they employee in stature and demeanor.

Thru this timelessness of her art, Lynne has garnered many accomplishments in her career to be proud of. Some of which includes being creatively involved with Ren & Stimpy, Batman the animated series, Powerpuff Girls, and Samurai Jack. Her work on such cartoons has afforded her the privilege of receiving the Rueben Award in 2002 from the National Cartoonist Association. In conjunction with the Rueben Award, Lynne received the Annie Award for her work on Samurai Jack in 2002, and was nominated for the Annie Award in 2005 for her work on Foster's Home.

Even though, these forms of art may be the what she is most commonly recognized for, I find that Lynne's paintings and illustrations surpass her more mainstream accomplishments. When looking at the characters and the settings, Les Baxster, Bobby Darin and a whole slew of other space age pop artist suddenly start playing in the background and it looks like 1958 all around. Most of all, personally I just find Lynne's work to be All Mod Fun!

I really suggest taking the time to check out her work when you have some time. You will definitely enjoy it!
